IMO sharepoint can’t be secure well. You have two competing permissions sets (AD and sharepoint) inherited from Frontpage designers. Then you have the sharepoint architecture for sites which is routinely loosened up regarding security so the users of sharepoint can get their work done. The sharepoint community has never agreed on how AD should be used. A tigther integration between AD and Sharepoint groups is probably a fundamental issue that needs to be re designed.
